Sunflowers

The sunflowers are looking good.  Standing tall and the heads are getting big.  It is crazy how they all know to face east.

Coffee

How do you prefer to drink your coffee?  I like mine in the mug on the right.   The other morning Bucky grabbed a water glass and filled it with coffee.  He then walked over to the door with it, set it down and came back.  I am watching him wondering what the heck he is doing.  A couple minutes later….he walks over to the door to put his shoes on…..looks at the cup and asks me when I opened up a pop.  I tell him that I probably had one yesterday….why?  He asks why there is a pop on the washing machine….I ask him if he is talking about the coffee and he looks at me like I’m crazy.  Then I have to explain that he put coffee in the water glass and took it over there.  Shaking his head, he walks over to grab a mug and pour his coffee the right way.  TOO many rounds in the combine!!!

The same day….my dad grabs a hose, walks up to the service unit pickup, opens the door and puts the hose inside.  Then he walks into the shop and asks where the service unit is……hmmmmm.

Harvest Sunsets

It is harvest time.  You can smell it in the air.  The smell of wheat and chaff is floating everywhere.  The dust barely settles before another truck drives by.  But a golden sunset like these is a guarantee every evening.

Harvest

The wheat harvest is in full swing.  Combines are going round and round or up and down.  Grain carts are cruising around the fields to unload the combines.  Trucks are busy hauling out of the fields.  Yup…..it’s harvest time.

Check out the combine

The kids had to play around on the combine that has been sitting in the yard….just to make sure it was ready to go.

Garden Update

Here is a little update on how my garden is doing.  The tomatoes are about as tall as 3 1/2 year olds.  I have noticed dry rot on some of the green tomatoes.  I have never had this happen before so I have been trying a few different things.

The green beans.  I dread looking through these because every time I do I end up with 3 ice cream pails of green beans.  IMG_5671

Canning

I spent my Sunday afternoon canning green beans.  I had one pressure canner full. And I made a dilly pickled bean recipe too.  So I had both the hot water canner and pressure canner going at the same time.  And I had both kids home at the time…..and they were not napping.  The only incident we had during this time was 3/4 of a toilet paper roll was stuffed into the toilet.  Other than that they just ran around while I was dicing beans and pouring boiling hot water.

The baby kittens are loved so much……

This is the kitten that we decided to take home with us.  I asked the kids to give her a name and they insisted on naming her Baby Kitten.  Not baby kitty but Baby KittEN!  IMG_5475

New baby kittens

Earlier this week I got four small baby kittens.  They are adorable!!  We have not had long haired kittens around forever!!  They were scared of the dogs and other cats.  They seem to be much better now that they have been here for a few days.  Right now they are hanging out in the shop bathroom.

Coop update

Here is a little update on the chicken coop project.  The outside is done.  We painted it red with white trim….which is the color it originally was back in the days.  We still need to put the fence up.

The inside is done too.  There are basically two rooms.  The back 2/3 is for the chickens and the front 1/3 is for storage, etc.
